Three irregular verbs
| ir, ser | fazer | ter | |
|---|---|---|---|
| eu | fui | fiz | tive |
| você, ele, ela, a gente | foi | fez | teve |
| nós | fomos | fizemos | tivemos |
| vocês, eles, elas | foram | fizeram | tiveram |
Ir (to go) and ser (to be) have the same past forms. The sentence tells you which one:
- ir: Eu fui ao mercado.
- ser: A festa foi ótima.
Fazer and ter
- O que você fez ontem?
- Eu fiz um curso de inglês.
- Tive uma reunião às dez.
- Ela teve um dia corrido.
How was it?
Como foi? is the question you hear after any trip, weekend or meeting. Short answers:
- Foi ótimo!
- Foi tranquilo.
- Foi corrido.
Pay attention! After ir, places come with a or para: Fui ao mercado. (ao = a + o), Fomos para o Rio. In speech, para is more common, and it often sounds like pra.
